Diagnosing 520i E39 with BMW Scanner 1.4 and 20pin connector

Auto Scanner 1.4.0 For BMW can do determination of chassis, model, engine, gearbox and complete set.

BMW model and year:
97 BMW 520i E39 with the round 20pins adaptor under the hood

Question: can this combination read out all codes?
Answer: If your car has a metal contact fitted to pin 15 of the round 20 pin BMW diagnostic port in the engine bay and has voltage on that pin you will need an ADS interface in order to access all available modules. This interface can access modules connected to the K diagnostic line but cannot access modules connected to the L diagnostic line (i.e. pin 15 – these modules usually include ABS system etc.).

Euro spec cars pre model year 2000 do not have a 16 pin OBD port under the dash – this is a US thing.

More inform, your car only uses K data lines, so your interface should read all modules fine. The pin functions you have should be:-

Pin 1 ENGINE
Pin 4 VOLTAGE HOT IN ACCY, RUN and START
Pin 7 SERVICE RESET
Pin 12 ALTERNATOR CHARGE INDICATOR
Pin 14 BATTERY +
Pin 16 IGNITION SIGNAL + (HOT IN RUN and START)
Pin 18 PROGRAMMING CONTROL VOLTAGE
Pin 19 GROUND
Pin 20 K DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINE
