Some BMW FEM key programming jobs may fail after EEPROM modification, even though the EEPROM has been read and written successfully.
Problem
A technician used Autel IM608 II to read and modify the FEM EEPROM on a BMW 4 Series. After writing the modified data back, the vehicle displayed the following message during key programming:
The key learning function is not supported for the current ECU.

Solution
The issue is usually caused by performing the programming steps in the wrong order.
Instead of programming the key immediately after writing the EEPROM, follow these steps:
1. Write the original data
System selection->Immobilizer->FEM/BDC Immobilizer->EEPROM operation->Chip type->Writing operation
Note: When writing this, please note that you are writing the original data from before.
2. ECU repair
System selection->Immobilizer->FEM/BDC Immobilizer->Programming operation->ECU repair
Note: If you want to directly duplicate the key from the anti-theft status scan, after scanning, select this BDC/FEM key learning (ECU disassembly and reading), because his car is FEM, and FEM does not support OBD preprocessing;
After ECU Repair, the key learning function should work normally.
Note: For BMW FEM vehicles, avoid performing BDC/FEM learning directly from the immobilizer scan menu. The recommended method is to complete ECU Repair first, then proceed with key programming.
